Since the “shut down” of the government in Washington D.C. commenced, it seems that the Administration has had the bright idea of acting like a dolt, closing memorials, parking lots, etc. Of course the mainstream media are hanging on the words of Messrs. Obama & Reid and spreading their crap as if it were the gospel truth, but that’s no real shock, now, is it? But I’m starting to digress, here, so back on topic…
This past weekend saw some reports that Chaplains in the Armed Forces could face arrest if they administer any Sunday services. When I heard this news, my first reaction was an eye roll, but then it was “Hey! Wait a minute. That is a First Amendment violation, right?”.
Now, I hate to admit it, but I took these reports at face value, so for all I know they could have been complete bullshit, but I haven’t seen anything to the contrary.
I have also wondered if the Chaplains have been asked to provide any religious services to members of faiths other than any of the forms of Christianity stand to be arrested too. Maybe the needs of the Jewish, Muslim, Jainist & Wiccan soldiers, sailors and airmen will have to go without the guidance of the Chaplain in their set moments of worship, but, again, I have not seen anything that states that would be the situation and maybe, for those spiritual paths I just mentioned, and others, there’s no need for a Chaplain on a regular weekly basis.
