Liberty the Loser

Democracy is great, unless its your team is on the wrong side of the results. For those of us independents, or invested in a “3rd party”, (Libertarian, Green, etc.), we feel like Democrats do today – and Republicans did this time two years ago – every election.

In America we vote not only on our various traditional political positions, (President, State Governor, State Treasurer, etc.), but also on positions like City Commissioner, School Board, Common Pleas Judge and Dog Catcher, (okay, that last one is a lie, just for some levity!). We also get to vote on “Issues”, which tend to be either to change/repeal a law, make a change to the State Constitution or for local levies/taxes, which all-in-all is a little like being asked to choose between being stabbed or bludgeoned.

Liberty, of course, is always the loser.

“The Declaration of Independence was formed by the representatives of American liberty from thirteen States of the Confederacy, twelve of which were slaveholding communities. We need not discuss the way or the reason of their becoming slave-holding communities. It is sufficient for our purpose that all of them greatly deplored the evil and that they placed a provision in the Constitution which they supposed would gradually remove the disease by cutting off its source. This was the abolition of the slave trade. This was their lofty, and wise, and noble understanding of the justice of the Creator to his creatures. Yes, gentlemen, to all his creatures, to the whole great family of man. They grasped not only the whole race of man then living, but they reached forward and seized upon the farthest posterity. They erected a beacon to guide their children, and their children’s children, and the countless myriads who should inhabit the earth in other ages. Wise statesmen as they were, they knew the tendency of prosperity to breed tyrants, and so they established these great self-evident truths, that when in the distant future some man, some faction, some interest, should set up the doctrine that none but rich men, or none but white men, or none but Anglo-Saxon white men, were entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, their posterity might look up again to the Declaration of Independence and take courage to renew the battle which their fathers began, so that truth and justice and mercy and all the humane and Christian virtues might not be extinguished from the land; so that no man would hereafter dare to limit and circumscribe the great principles on which the temple of liberty was being built.

Now, my countrymen, if you have been taught doctrines conflicting with the great landmarks of the Declaration of Independence; if you have listened to suggestions which would take away from its grandeur and mutilate the fair symmetry of its proportions; if you have been inclined to believe that all men are not created equal in those inalienable rights enumerated by our chart of liberty, let me entreat you to come back. Return to the fountain whose waters spring close by the blood of the Revolution.

Think nothing of me — take no thought for the political fate of any man whomsoever — but come back to the truths that are in the Declaration of Independence. You may do anything with me you choose, if you will but heed these sacred principles. You may not only defeat me for the Senate, but you may take me and put me to death. While pretending no indifference to earthly honors, I do claim to be actuated in this contest by something higher than an anxiety for office. I charge you to drop every paltry and insignificant thought for any man’s success. It is nothing; I am nothing; Judge Douglas is nothing. But do not destroy that immortal emblem of Humanity — the Declaration of American Independence.”

Maybe Arthur Jesus Is Better Than None!

In late 2009, I lost a pretty incredible job. It wasn’t the paid at the top rate in its industry, by any means, but it was the best wage I’d ever earned and it was a job that I was a natural fit for, (in fact, I had applied and interviewed for a different position, but some test results had the HR and management at the company ask me to me re-interview, for this other job!). The people were, on the whole, great, the work enjoyable and it was a short 10-minute commute. Then the economy started crashing and that was that. Lay-offs started and being fairly new to the company and not the most productive, (I can do high quality work, but it is apparently low in quantity), the axe fell upon my corporate neck. In those four-and-a-half years I’ve worked a total of seven months.

My wife & I sit, and plan and talk about all the stuff we want to do around here – the little businesses we want to start; the landscaping of our double lot into a self sufficient, crop growing wonderland – but it never happens. Most likely wont happen here, now, either.

The depression is terrible. It kills everything.

It hasn’t helped that, quite literally the only risk I’ve ever taken is coming to the USA to see if the internet romance we started could work in real life. My natural propensity is to have an idea, only to almost immediately dismiss it as a failure. Depression just makes this happen much quicker. So quick that anymore even mid-idea the vision of its total failure fills my mind and the thought dissipates.

I know I’m better than this. I am certain my wife and kids deserve more than this. But I just feel so lost in this whirlwind of life.

Sometimes I see the downturn in my fortunes and demeanor and that of this country and wonder… am I the King Arthur to the USA’s ancient Britain?! The apparent death of my homeownership on Good Friday has also made me wonder if this means that in three days I will rise from “the dead”. Maybe I’m just being delusional. Maybe its my mind just looking for patterns, as you do when looking at the whorls in a piece of polished wood and see the eyes and ghosts. Maybe all I need is to find that Holy Grail or to have someone roll away that stone. (Just noticed another link there, between the Holy Grail and Easter).

Oddly, the fog of depression and resignation has lifted a touch, as I write these words. Strange…

Gather Around

The lefties are already talking of rallying the troops for 2014, (Breitbart.com: OFA Announces Intention to Effectively Break Campaign Laws in 2014 Midterm Elections).

Meanwhile, we on the right are fractious and fighting. I follow almost 2000 people on Twitter, all of them whose politics are right of center. Unfortunately, there are quite a few who think that their way is the only way and take those who don’t agree to task, causing juvenilistic bickering. This is our strength and our weakness. The lefties move behind MoveOn.org and OFA simply because most every lefty is stupid enough to go along with whatever garbage these organizations spew that furthers their socialist agendas.

Yes, the social and cultural issues are important but without the political clout behind our beliefs, we will have a Sisyphus-like battle to regain that position whereupon we have the ability, through legislation, to push the core agenda of Constitutional adherence, small government, less taxes, less government spending and more personal liberty.

It won’t be easy, but we have to all rally ourselves in order to have candidates in place, and elected, that further the core agenda, and then focus on all the other issues.

Come On, Let’s Stick Together

My fellow libertarians, conservatives, constitutionalists and others:

No-one expects us to agree on every issue, but the current spate of infighting that I have witnessed on Twitter, (and I assume it is taking place in other forums, as well as in real life, too), is crazy.

We need to focus on what we do all agree on, even if it is one single issue, and rally around that. We can argue over the finer points when we have ousted those in positions of influence and power whose ideologies are left-of-center and made them irrelevant, but meanwhile, we have to have each others’ backs in the real fight of taking our country back, because that is going to be a long fight. The longest fight. It is a fight which will never end and we need all of our energies to fight them. If we stand together, we don’t have to be afraid, of failure, ridicule or repercussions.

Right now, we are now living in the times that are merely a precursor to the hellish existence that these lefties wish for us to endure. Why? Precisely because we have been either lackadaisical or dogmatic in our beliefs. That has to end now.

Or are your egos so big that you have to get into destructive online flame wars? There’s no need to get into virtual slagging matches over differences of opinions with those who ideologies are so close to your own.

Almost a year ago, I found a video on YouTube that was a mash-up of various inspirational speeches from movies. I found all the quotes the video used and put it all in one blog. At the time, I was thinking of it not only in the context of my own life, but in the political context of going up against the huge machine of the fervent Obamanauts and the Chicago tactics. Here’s the dialog from that video, with some edits for this situation.

I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad, but today, I want to talk about our opponents. If this were a football game, they would be bigger, faster, stronger, and more experienced.

They say we’re inferior! I say, the American people have been had! Been took! Been hoodwinked! Bamboozled!

Oh, but I’m not finished!

Let me tell you something you already know. The world is not all sunshine and rainbows, it is a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall. And it has fallen here, in the United States. It has fallen.

Believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us, but we have to forget about the crowds… the size of their political machine… their fancy memorabilia and instead remember what got us here and not get caught up thinking about winning and losing.

We just can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. If we don’t come together right now on this hallowed ground, America, its principles and the ideologies opposed to statism, Marxism and all of the other -isms of the left, will be destroyed.

We sink, we swim; we rise, we fall; we meet our fate together! Either, we heal as a team, or we’re gonna crumble inch by inch, election by election, no matter how big or small that election might be, until we’re finished.

I sense fear that would take the heart of me and a day may come when our courage fails, but it will not… it cannot be this day… this election cycle

Yes, fight and we may lose and our country and principles may die, but if we run, we’ll survive, at least a while and I guarantee a week won’t go by in our lives we won’t regret giving up, letting them get the best of us.

This country and its people were great once. Can we not be great again? Are we asking too much for this? Is it beyond our reach? Because if it is, then we are nothing but sheep being herded to the final slaughterhouse and we cannot go down that way!

We are not inferior. We can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of this hell, one inch at a time. But if we are to be prepared for the fight, we must first shed our fear of it. And I write this without fear because I know how great this country can be.

But it is not about how hard we hit back, it is about how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. How much we can take and keep moving forward.

And all I know is that first we’ve got to get mad. When we go out there to preserve freedom and liberty, we have got to lay our hearts on the line. From the souls of our feet, with every ounce of blood we have in your body, we lay it all on the line. And if we do that… if we do that, we cannot lose.

From now on, we fight them and we shut them down, because we can! This is our time, again, for freedom and liberty. Their time of a statist nanny state is done. Screw ’em.

Do you understand me? How we “play” today, from this moment on is how we will be remembered. So, here’s what I want us to do. We blitz them, on Twitter, in Comments,  wherever we can find them, online or offline and we blitz them all the time!

And when you find your thoughts wandering, I want you to knuckle back down and concentrate. Concentrate! Remember what is at stake

And now, I’ve got a message for those people out there who have abandoned us and written us off! We are as mad as hell and we’re not going to take it any more!

We choose to fight back! We choose to rise, not fall! We choose to live, not die!

And, patriots, let no man forget how menacing we are, we are lions!

This is our opportunity to rise from these ashes and grab glory. On this team we fight for freedom. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for liberty. That’s how winning is done!

Would you be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that of your passing from this world, for one chance, just one chance, to come back to the here and now to make sure that they remember, forever, that we did not vanish without a fight?! That we are still here?! Because what we do in life echoes in eternity.

Now… what are we going to do? We go out there and take it. Take it! It’s ours!

Election Aftermath

Its OK. I’m not about to off myself, or start some bloody revolution, as there’s a fight to be fought. The fight to save the thing I am passionate about, this country, this beautiful constitutional republic, by working to educate.

I wasn’t ever passionate about Romney. I took the chance to see him in Cincy, Lebanon & West Chester because I wanted to be engaged. I wanted to see Obama & Johnson when they had events in our area, but just couldn’t get the time to do so.

Tuesday morning, around 8AM, after queueing for about 25 minutes, I stood at the polling booth. My finger hovered a few seconds between the candidates I thought could win, (Romney/Ryan), and the candidates I felt expressed my views the best, (Johnson/Gray), before biting the bullet and choosing R/R. They were, in my mind, a far from suitable solution, but better than what we are facing now, a man who seems to think QE and spending even more, whilst expanding government, is the way to deal with the horrendous fiscal situation we are hurtling towards. The dollar had already started to fall in foreign currency markets just hours after Obama was declared the winner; the Dow Jones plunged about 300 points within 45 minutes or so, upon opening Wednesday. Thursday wasn’t much better, with multiple stories of layoff announcements.

I’m upset that the future of my children and this country has been put in jeopardy. Government will do nothing but expand over the next four years, which coupled with any future financial “stimulus” packages will do nothing but stifle the economy. ALL of the governmental spending needs to be either eliminated or cut right down to the barest bones. That is what is killing the country, and the party of people in charge is irrelevant.

Its time to wake up the masses and reach out to everyone with the libertarian message, which in general terms is fiscal conservatism, social liberalism and the freedom to do as one wishes, so long as it does not infringe on the liberty and freedom of others. I know this message is hard for some of the more socially conservative and fiscally liberal to grasp, but they need to understand.

With more “flexibility” for our President, I really do fear what the following four years holds for us, and just how the next President, whoever that shall be, will be able to clear up the mess that this egotistical shyster will make of this country, I do not know.
