McDonalds… Healthcare… Guns… Retirement…

Yes, I like to eat good food, in the sense of fresh, organic produce and meats. This was posted on one of the FaceBook groups I follow. Being a libertarian, I firmly believe that the crux of the message Mr. Salatin – a farmer and an advocate of homegrown, organic produce – puts forth here – “…we ask for too much salvation by legislation.” – is, to me applicable to all aspects of life.

Come On, Let’s Stick Together

My fellow libertarians, conservatives, constitutionalists and others:

No-one expects us to agree on every issue, but the current spate of infighting that I have witnessed on Twitter, (and I assume it is taking place in other forums, as well as in real life, too), is crazy.

We need to focus on what we do all agree on, even if it is one single issue, and rally around that. We can argue over the finer points when we have ousted those in positions of influence and power whose ideologies are left-of-center and made them irrelevant, but meanwhile, we have to have each others’ backs in the real fight of taking our country back, because that is going to be a long fight. The longest fight. It is a fight which will never end and we need all of our energies to fight them. If we stand together, we don’t have to be afraid, of failure, ridicule or repercussions.

Right now, we are now living in the times that are merely a precursor to the hellish existence that these lefties wish for us to endure. Why? Precisely because we have been either lackadaisical or dogmatic in our beliefs. That has to end now.

Or are your egos so big that you have to get into destructive online flame wars? There’s no need to get into virtual slagging matches over differences of opinions with those who ideologies are so close to your own.

Almost a year ago, I found a video on YouTube that was a mash-up of various inspirational speeches from movies. I found all the quotes the video used and put it all in one blog. At the time, I was thinking of it not only in the context of my own life, but in the political context of going up against the huge machine of the fervent Obamanauts and the Chicago tactics. Here’s the dialog from that video, with some edits for this situation.

I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad, but today, I want to talk about our opponents. If this were a football game, they would be bigger, faster, stronger, and more experienced.

They say we’re inferior! I say, the American people have been had! Been took! Been hoodwinked! Bamboozled!

Oh, but I’m not finished!

Let me tell you something you already know. The world is not all sunshine and rainbows, it is a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall. And it has fallen here, in the United States. It has fallen.

Believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us, but we have to forget about the crowds… the size of their political machine… their fancy memorabilia and instead remember what got us here and not get caught up thinking about winning and losing.

We just can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. If we don’t come together right now on this hallowed ground, America, its principles and the ideologies opposed to statism, Marxism and all of the other -isms of the left, will be destroyed.

We sink, we swim; we rise, we fall; we meet our fate together! Either, we heal as a team, or we’re gonna crumble inch by inch, election by election, no matter how big or small that election might be, until we’re finished.

I sense fear that would take the heart of me and a day may come when our courage fails, but it will not… it cannot be this day… this election cycle

Yes, fight and we may lose and our country and principles may die, but if we run, we’ll survive, at least a while and I guarantee a week won’t go by in our lives we won’t regret giving up, letting them get the best of us.

This country and its people were great once. Can we not be great again? Are we asking too much for this? Is it beyond our reach? Because if it is, then we are nothing but sheep being herded to the final slaughterhouse and we cannot go down that way!

We are not inferior. We can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of this hell, one inch at a time. But if we are to be prepared for the fight, we must first shed our fear of it. And I write this without fear because I know how great this country can be.

But it is not about how hard we hit back, it is about how hard we can get hit and keep moving forward. How much we can take and keep moving forward.

And all I know is that first we’ve got to get mad. When we go out there to preserve freedom and liberty, we have got to lay our hearts on the line. From the souls of our feet, with every ounce of blood we have in your body, we lay it all on the line. And if we do that… if we do that, we cannot lose.

From now on, we fight them and we shut them down, because we can! This is our time, again, for freedom and liberty. Their time of a statist nanny state is done. Screw ’em.

Do you understand me? How we “play” today, from this moment on is how we will be remembered. So, here’s what I want us to do. We blitz them, on Twitter, in Comments,  wherever we can find them, online or offline and we blitz them all the time!

And when you find your thoughts wandering, I want you to knuckle back down and concentrate. Concentrate! Remember what is at stake

And now, I’ve got a message for those people out there who have abandoned us and written us off! We are as mad as hell and we’re not going to take it any more!

We choose to fight back! We choose to rise, not fall! We choose to live, not die!

And, patriots, let no man forget how menacing we are, we are lions!

This is our opportunity to rise from these ashes and grab glory. On this team we fight for freedom. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for liberty. That’s how winning is done!

Would you be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that of your passing from this world, for one chance, just one chance, to come back to the here and now to make sure that they remember, forever, that we did not vanish without a fight?! That we are still here?! Because what we do in life echoes in eternity.

Now… what are we going to do? We go out there and take it. Take it! It’s ours!

For the victory of freedom and liberty!

This Is A Hoax, Right?

I’m no fan of the GOP, as I consider myself libertarian, but this is just bullshit, imho. I have emboldened the area I find I am reading with incredulity. The link was sent to me by a liberal family member.

I guess this is the kind of talk that’s going on in rightwing circles right now. I know the guy that wrote this through political debate pages on Facebook. He’s a “devout”, extreme, Libertarian, and I’ve never seen him write anything outside of the stark, ultra-right mantra……until today. Personally I was really shocked when I got to the bottom and saw the name of the author because all I’ve ever seen him do is blindly quote, pre-rehearsed, right-wing talking points, whether they fit the context of discussion or not. Never knew he was capable of original thought, but I suppose a lot on the Right, after two smack downs by Obama, the one they were told had no record to run on, the one they were told would lose by a land slide, the one they believed racist ads would scare white people from voting for, have had a shocking wake up from their deluded slumber. Obama’s second win was like icy water dashed on their faces. — TWO wins cannot be a fluke. And now they have no choice but to turn away from the comfort and false complacency of the factless, alternate reality they’d crafted for themselves.

“Folks, I think it’s time for all of us to capitalize on Obama’s re-election and turn a negative into a positive. We have already definitively proven these past two election cycles that Republican voters are, for lack of a nicer way of putting it, idiots. They will gladly nominate the candidate that says what they WANT to hear rather than what they NEED to hear; they’ll gladly delude themselves into thinking a loser can beat a winner if he makes them feel good inside.

I propose we – libertarians, Constitutionalists, minarchists, anarchists, and even so-called “conservatives” (the real ones, not neo-cons or Christian whack jobs) – unite and work WITH the progressive left in this country to effectively marginalize the GOP at the national level.

Simple game theory leaves that we will always come down to two choices, no matter how many parties are permitted into the debates and into the selection. Conventional wisdom then states that the status quo is what we’re stuck with. Well, the earth is round and not flat, though conventional wisdom would indicate that the world is flat. Given that we will inevitably boil down to two parties, this begs the question: where is it written that those two choices must be Democrats and Republicans? I vote we eject Republicans from their ivory towers, where stupid people make stupid comments about rape and abortion and other non-issues; let’s fill the vacuum with the Libertarian Party so we can finally get some good, meaningful, and philosophical debate going in this country.”

Kyle O’Laughlin

The point I considered bullshit is “…work WITH the progressive left in this country…“, because I consider the progressive left to be for a huge, freedom-strangulating, bureacracy. Government needs to be brought back within its constraints, as per the Constitution, and I can’t believe anyone with even a remotely similar idea of the role of government would consider allying with those of an opposing view.

As for social policies, frankly, I don’t give a crap what people do, just as long as they aren’t infringing on or coercing anyone else and are okay with living with the consequences.

Head Or Heart? @MittRomney Or @GovGaryJohnson?

This is going to be my first Presidential Election since becoming a naturalized citizen, and its one that is tearing me apart, ideologically.

You see, I currently consider myself libertarian – I want a very limited government; few, if any taxes; and few laws. I understand, however, that such a society, where people can pretty do as they want, as long as its not hurting another, is pretty much nigh on impossible to attain, as someone will always want to exercise their power of another, or others. Its human nature.

As much as we like to think of ourselves as being some kind of superior entity, with our cities and industry and technology, when it all boils down to it, we are animals with instinctual, base needs – food, shelter and sex. But that sounds like a blog for another time…

I’ve always had an affinity for third parties, when I lived in the UK I was very much a Liberal Democrat and Plaid Cymru supporter, depending on if the election was for Westminster on local politics. I suppose my aversion to big parties has tracked my evolution in ideology! Now, I do have some conservative leanings, I suppose, as a number of the Republican nominees made sense to me. Ron Paul & Gary Johnson were obvious attractions, (according to Ron Paul& I  matched 99%!), ideologically, but I also liked Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich, as much. I also got behind the campaign of Buddy Roemer, a Republican who was hoping to run a cross-party ticket with its main focus on ending the power of money in politics. When it became obvious Romney was going to be the Republican Candidate, I switched my allegiance to Gary Johnson.

The weekend after the RNC Convention I took a road trip to Cincinnati to be at the Victory Tour stop for the Romney campaign, (my first ever political meeting of any kind), and loved the energy. I also warmed a little to Romney. Still, my tweets and FB posts leaned to the libertarian side of politics.

On the 15th, we managed to secure child minding for the weekend and both DW & I managed the road trip down to Cincinnati for the FreedomWorks “FreePAC Ohio” conference. We came away from that energized and I particularly enjoyed the more libertarian lean of the whole thing.

But slowly, I’m coming to terms with the fact that I am going to have to vote for Romney.

As much as I would love to be able to vote for my libertarian ideals, there needs to be an America in which those ideals can survive. The libertarian ideology has more in common with the Republicans than the Democrats, certainly the current crop of socialists and communists that the Democrats seem to have embraced as their leaders, and as we get nearer to the election, the thought that I need to vote for those who will save America is outweighing the need to vote to my ideology.

An Apparent Contradiction By The White House?

With the apparent union-friendly atmosphere at the White House, since President Obama’s inauguration, as well as the well-documented support by unions for Democrat politicians in general, something I read today struck a chord with me. It was one of those “Things That Make You Go Hmmmm….” moments, for me.

On the PopVox site, I saw this under the “The Administration” section for H.R. 3094: Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act, (my emphasis):

The Administration opposes H.R. 3094 because it would undermine and delay workers’ ability to exercise their right to choose whether or not to be represented by a union. H.R. 3094 also attacks the freedom of individuals to choose the co-workers with whom they wish to seek representation.

In plain English!

The White House seems to be advocating for the right-to-work laws.

Am I right? I’m sure I am…

“…[W]orkers’ ability to exercise their right to choose…” doesn’t sound very pro-union, pro-closed shop, to me…

No Jobs? Working Too Many Jobs?

I hear people talk about having a 2nd, 3rd, even 4th jobs and all I can think is that its not just the governmental entities who need to learn to live withing their means in order to help get this country out of the pit it seems hell bent on falling into…

I think you really have to look at what you’re doing when the working adults in a family are all working at least one job each, with some in that unit working multiple jobs.

Really? Is it necessary?

And if it is necessary, (and I don’t think it is), isn’t that a damned shame, on so many levels?
